What is Character?

"Character is the virtue
of hard times."

- Charles De Gaulle

CHARACTER IS...

The combination of traits that make us who we are. Social scientists studied universally recognised traits and categorised them into six classes of virtues with twenty-four character strengths. These character strengths serve as tools of measurement of 'good character' and having good character can lead to a happy life.
According to studies, teaching individuals about character and helping them to develop their character strengths cultivates positive self-worth, promotes self-awareness and ultimately increases their happiness and satisfaction levels. It also enables them to know how to contribute to the world using their unique combination of strengths.
Every individual has a different combination of character strengths making everyone a unique being. We may be born with certain strengths being more prominent than others, but the environments we live in and the families and friends we have also affect the development of our character strengths. We can grow in any, or all, our character strengths.
